PlotI felt that the plot was pretty mediocre towards the middle (the fighter jets sequence was overdrawn methinks) but picked up as the acts progressed. It's pretty much an origin story so it covers all the basics of how Wonder Woman came to be.
And a Wonder Woman is born...The big bad of the piece is Ares, the god of War. He seems to be a pretty popular member of the Greek pantheon in pop culture these days it seems coz I seem to recall him popping up in some other fine geektastic literature (think Kratos, Mighty Avengers, JLU, etc.) Anyhoo, Ares (who kinda reminds me of the Superman Animated Series Metallo) is up to all sorts of shenanigans that mostly spells doom for mankind and needs a-stoppin'.
"This... is... ARES!!!!"
AnimationThe animation for this movie is top notch. The Timm-esque influences in the angular features of the characters are clearly apparent but the details in the art show a mix of Disney and anime influences. Whatever it may be, I think that the animation is goooooood.
Steve Trevor in trouble with the Disney-esque women Violence and HumourThe thing that I like most about the film is that it is clearly not targetted at kids. From the various decapitations, human sacrifices and risque humour, this is clearly one for the geeks who are a bit older. Having said that though, nothing is done gratitiously (I'm looking at you, you sadistic Hulk vs. Wolverine animated movie) and all is good.
Is that WW gouging out a monster's eyeball with heels? Yerp, pretty much. The One Line VerdictWonder Woman : The Animated Movie is an entertaining and highly watchable movie with a good plot, solid animation and a healthy mix of violence and humour.
Yep, it's got zombies too...I give the movie :
